Sport Stars Score for Children
Wednesday, July 27, 2005
Merging the Providence Portland Hospital employee golf tournament with the NBA/NFL Charity Golf Challenge and Party with the Pros dinner auction was a stroke of genius. More than 1,000 people participated, and the Center for Medically Fragile children (CMFC) at Providence Child Center took home $300,000 in proceeds. Thanks to all employee golfers who participated!

This year's honorary co-chairs were Detroit Lions quarterback Joey Harrington and former Portland Trailblazer Kenny Carr. Proceeds from the 2005 event will help endow beds at the Center for Medically Fragile Children, which is home to 58 children with disabilities and complex medical conditions. Providence Child Center Foundation aims to endow every bed at the Center for Medically Fragile Children in perpetuity by 2007 through a $14 million campaign.

The only facility in the Northwest providing 24-hour skilled nursing care for children, the center has an average annual cost of $110,000 per child.
