Q) Joey, I just wanted to commend you on the game you played today. You looked calm and composed in the pocket and did a great job of spreading the ball around. I know that you are probably disappointed that you didn't get the win, but the blame can hardly lie with you. You've done extremely well to keep your composure amidst an obnoxious and entirely unnecessary media fanfare. As a lifetime Falcons fan, I just want to thank you for signing with the Falcons and giving us a quarterback that we can be proud of. Keep up the good work, both on and off the field. Thanks, Ian

--Ian Conlon - Durham, NC
A) Thanks, Ian. It was certainly disappointing as a team not to win or play as well as we know we can play. The one thing I have learned in the NFL is, win or lose, you start Monday looking ahead. That's where I am right now. There are some things we did pretty well and certainly a number of things we need to improve. I was disappointed but not discouraged.
Q) Dear Joey, I am old enough to be your mother, so not your usual fan. We all went to the games at Medford High in my era and they were a lot of fun, but I didn't really follow the sport until my son started to play. I love the high school games, so my family couldn't understand why I couldn't stand the pros. I said "They are overpaid, spoiled, drug addicts with no morals." I know, that's a bit harsh and generalizing! Then I saw an interview you did at U of O. I told my husband, "now there is a football player who's intelligent, articulate and humble and he plays a mean piano." We have followed your career since and were appalled at the way the "fans" in Detroit treated you, but very impressed with the way you maintained your professionalism in the face of such adversity. We hope you finally have been given an opportunity to play on a decent team where you can shine. You looked so down tonight after today's game, we had to write and say keep your chin up, we in Oregon are proud of you! P.S. Tell those Atlanta boys to give you better pass protection!

A) Not to worry. I am not discouraged and I play with a good bunch of guys who I respect. We will get better. Always good to hear from Oregon. Thanks.
Q) Joey - First, wanted to say how very excited we are to have you in Atlanta! I think you will provide much needed leadership at the quarterback position. I can't wait for the season to start! Second, do you know where we can get we can get a Harrington U of O jersey (well, besides for a signed one that is)? Thanks, Jason

--Jason Daffner - Atlanta, GA
A) Thanks, Jason. I am excited for the season to start as well. Our team is ready and it's a tribute to our coaching staff to have kept us focused on what we need to do this preseason. I think we only have a few UO jerseys left on our website. When they are gone, that's it. My jersey was NIKE's new design for the Ducks at the time and they have changed it since. All we have left are autographed jerseys. There might be a few left at the University of Oregon Bookstore or Duck Shop.
Q) Joey, first my statement, then my question. I have followed you since your career at Oregon. I'm not really sure why you caught my eye and how I even caught an Oregon game since I'm a die-hard Gamecock fan and since I'm a Steelers fan I hardly ever got to see you play when you were in Detroit! But honestly, your character must have shown through that night I watched you for the first time. I've been pulling for you and praying for you and it seems that your next endevour is starting off on the right foot. I couldn't be happier for you...my question is, what is your hope for your personal success with Atlanta that you feel you didn't accomplish before? By the way, everyone says my hubby and you could pass for brothers, and we have the same anniversary as you and your wife! haha Anyway, good luck and God Bless!

--Mindy Bundrick - Batesburg, SC
A) I guess you couldn't get farther apart than South Carolina and Oregon. You must have been staying up late on the East Coast to have watched us play a night game at Oregon. I have really come to appreciate the difficulty when I try to catch the Duck night games three hours later these past five years. To answer your question, I really love football and I love to compete. This season I hope to recapture the joy of the game I had when I was in college. Certainly, playing on a winning team with teammates I enjoy and respect is something that is important and I think we are on the right track here in Atlanta. Thanks for your support.
Q) Hey Joey, GREAT game last night and congratulations on leading the Falcons to a victory over Cincinnati - it was so much fun to watch! I am so pumped and excited to watch you and the Falcons this coming season - can't wait for the regular season to start. Thanks for providing leadership that comes from the heart and spirit of a champion as well as from your great talent and abilities; Atlanta is so very lucky to have you here. How are you feeling about everything these days? And from one piano player to another, are you able to keep your chops up these days and find a piano somewhere? What's it like being newly married with everything that you've suddenly found put on your shoulders? (She must be very special as well as being very understanding.) -- From your number one fans in Marietta, Georgia, Phillip and Mandy Allen

--Phillip Allen - Marietta, GA
A) Thanks for the support. Last night's game was a lot of fun. I am really happy to be a member of the Falcons and playing for this coaching staff. Frankly, I can't think of a better owner than Arthur Blank to be playing for this season. He is a wonderful man who I really respect. We are becoming very comfortable with Atlanta, meeting new people and actually discovering relatives that I didn't know I had in Atlanta. I have had my great grandmother's piano with me since college. I had it reconditioned 6 years ago and it's a fabulous piano - a 1911 Baldwin. During the season I really can only play off and on for my own enjoyment at home which is fine with me. I had a lot of fun during the off season interviewing and playing with a great jazz pianist, Judy Carmichael, on her jazz program "Jazz Inspired". You can access a clip of it on the website home page right now.
Q) No question here. I just want to let you know that I’ve been observing you… not with a critical eye, or through the eye of a fan. I used to be a greater fan of the NFL but I just haven’t been able to “connect” with players the older I get. My life isn’t a party, in fact, its pretty normal here in Royal Oak, MI. I’m a dad trying to raise two little kids to be a positive force in a dark world, just trying to be the best dad I can and provide the brightest future possible for my kids. I know you’ve faced enough adversity and criticism to last your entire career. I guess I just want to let you know that your positive mental attitude permeates beyond the NFL and inspires others to succeed in the face of nay sayers. I hope I can be such an example in our community here in the Detroit area. Hang in there and continue to fight the good fight! You’ve picked up a fan, a fan of you as a person. I wish you all the best in your new home in Atlanta.

--Dreu Adams - Royal Oak, MI
A) That's very nice of you to say. I certainly didn't expect as much adversity coming out of a successful college experience into the NFL. However, I love football and I love to compete and I have learned that the criticism comes with being in the national eye. In the end I have just tried to stay true to what I think is important in my life. Thanks for the comments and all the best to you and your family.
Q) Hello Joey, I grew up in Eugene and have followed the ducks for the past 30 years. I went to all the bowl games you played in and had a blast. People know my passion for duck football and it is on that note I want to thank you for allowing me to be proud of where I'm from. With all that happens in our society today it is so refreshing to see someone handle themselves in such a professional manner. I believe in your ability as a player and know that great things are coming. However even if you never go any further within the sport it's obvious to me that you will represent us all as a champion in life. Thanks Joey!

A) I really appreciate your comments and the many other people who have written in to offer encouragement. I am just sorry I don't have enough time to answer everyone. Thanks.
Q) Hi Joey! No question--just wanted to say that you looked sharp tonight!! Calm, composed, confident--just like the professional you are! You seem ready to roll with this team. Go get 'em this season and have fun doing it--you certainly have earned the right to do so!! Kathy Strombeck Salem, Oregon

--Kathy Strombeck - Salem, OR
A) Yes, that was a lot of fun last night. I think we have begun to come together as a team and it was nice to do it on national TV.
Q) Hey Joey, nice throwing tonight!! It was fun to watch the team do well. Stay hungry. Justin

--Justin Pfauth - New York, NY
A) Thanks. I have felt good throwing the ball all camp and I have some good receivers to throw to this year as well.
Q) Joey, excellent game tonight. You have my total admiration and I am rooting for you to do well. I have believed in you since your Oregon days and as a fellow Oregonian I can only say that it is nice to see a former Duck in the NFL. You represent Oregon well! My question to you is this, which offensive system do you excel most in? GO DUCKS!!!

--Matthew Randquist - Colorado Springs, AK
A) So far I really like what Coach Petrino has us doing. I have flexibility at the line of scrimmage to make adjustments which hasn't always been the case in the past.
