Q) Joey when did you start playing the Qb postion
--Kyle Andrews - Elizabeth City, NC
A) I started playing football in 5th grade. Our team was made up of kids from my neighborhood and grade school. My dad was our head coach. It was a tough year since we played mostly against 6th graders. In fact, I think we lost every game but for one tie. The next year we were able to win most of our games and I continued to play QB and defensive end through 8th grade. It was a lot of fun which is the most important thing in youth athletics.
Q) Why not switch to pro golf and join cousin Padraig on the European Ryder cup team for the K club Kildare in 2006?
--michael murphy - co westmeath, ireland., AK
A) I don't think I am in his league as a golfer even though I love the game. It was a real thrill to be able to walk inside the ropes with him during a few of his rounds in the Ryder Cup. What would really be fun is to play in a pro-am with him some time.
Q) Congratualtions on your second win and being the top of your division! I'm a huge fan of yours and I wish you all the luck! How are you and the guys approaching the next few games? Will there be anything different or will you look at them the same you looked at the past two? Good luck #3!
--Ashley Smith - St. Albans, WV
A) Thank you. There's no doubt the next few games are going to be a real test for us. However, one of the things I learned quickly in the NFL is that you can't look down the road at teams on your schedule. Every game is important. A sixteen game schedule is a long season in pro football. It's almost, with the four preseason games, twice as long as a college season. Consistency is the answer to being successful. That's our goal.
Q) A huge Lions fan! It’s very gratifying to see this team perform above and beyond expectation. I noticed you’re a music fan. Is their any type of music you like to listen to and play on the piano?
--Alan Peters - Troy, MI
A) Thanks a lot. Actually, I like a wide range of music but jazz is what I prefer.
Q) That's number Two, Joey!! Congratulations to yourself, the entire Detroit Lions Organization and the Ford family for the big win in Motown this afternoon! I couldn't be more proud of the performance of all aspects that contributed to the victory today!! Roy, yourself, Eddie Drummond, "Big Baby" S. Rogers (!!) KJ, Artoose, Jason Hanson, Cory..oh, I could go on & on, so I won't!! Good win Joey!!
--Wade Lindeman - Interlochen, AK
A) Thank you. The fans were great and it was a lot of fun. Hopefully, we can keep it going for the rest of the season.
Q) Hey Joey,
I am in the Army and am currently in Baghdad Iraq I think what you are doing here is great I have been a fan of you and the ducks since I was a kid growing up in Oregon I have 3 children of my own and rarely see them due to deployments I was just wondering where you can possibly find the time to do all that you do. Not enough athletes care like you do let alone follow through with stuff like your website, foundation, and annual concert. Thank you for making Athletes someone to look up to other then just for athletics.
GO DUCKS and GO LIONS
best of wishes to you and your team.
Shane Hayes, Baghdad Iraq
--Shane Hayes - Fort Lewis, WA
A) I get a lot of help from my mom and dad who are currently running our family foundation. It's a way to show my gratitude for all the opportunities I have been given. Best wishes to you, too, Shane. I hope you can return home to your family soon.
Q) Congratulations Joey for your first road win as a Detroit Lion! Regardless of what's been said about starting & developing a rookie QB, we all love your heart & passion for winning. All Lions fan throughout the entire state of Michigan have felt every loss and felt for you. We'll support you through the positive as well as the negative, Joey. Here's to many more victories #3!
--Wade Lindeman - Interlochen, AK
A) Thank you for the nice thought. The game in Chicago was a lot of fun. We are excited as a team about the prospects for this season and want to keep the momentum going heading into the Houston game. It will be nice to be back in Ford Field next week.
Q) Hey Joey,
I just wanted to say Good Luck this season, its going to be awesome. I was wondering if you were going to see your second cousin play in the Ryder Cup coming up? GO LIONS!
--Bridget Sweeny - Dearborn, MI
A) Thanks. We are all looking forward to this season. Yes, I am hopeful to see a bit of the Ryder Cup competition. My cousin, Padraig Harrington, from Ireland will be playing and a lot of his family will be here as well. Our two families are planning to get together - time permitting.
Q) Hey Joey--While I was watching the Quarterback Challenge, I noticed you have a unique grip on the football. I am also a Quarterback so I decided to give your grip a try and it works out fantastic for me. I was just wondering how you came up with that grip? Go Lions!!!!
--Jason Maniscalco - bethpage, NY
A) It's funny but I just started gripping the ball like that when I began playing QB in 5th grade CYO football. My father coached me and as a former college QB he never said anything. Through high school the coaches never tried to change me and it wasn't until college that my coach said he had never seen a grip like that. By then, I guess they figured it was too late and I was doing OK with a unique grip. It just seems natural to me.
Q) Hi Joey--I was fortunate enough to get your autograph at Pioneer Courthouse Square the other day. A friend and I have tickets to your benefit concert on July 1st (we were at your concert last year too!)--thanks for remembering your roots and giving back to your community. You, obviously, are very talented on the piano--my question is does anyone else in your family play? I never read that either of your brothers had to practice piano before they could play football--are you the only one who plays?
--Kathy Strombeck - Salem, OR
A) Actually, my youngest brother plays the piano, too. My mom and dad used to play, before they had kids. But I think I got my musical gene from my great grandmother who played the piano for the silent movies in Boise, Idaho. I've restored her piano and have it in my home in Michigan.
