Q) Joey: Thanks for being such a great role model for so many kids - both on and off the field. I grew up in Detroit, went to grad school in Eugene, and now live near Washington DC. So I've been a big Lions fan all my life (and a Ducks fan since '78). My 9 year old son is proud to wear your jersey to school and when we go someplace to watch the Lions play. Good luck with the season!!

--Kevin Kirchner - Kensington, MD
A) Thanks. Being a Lions and Duck fan is a good combination.
Q) Joey! I just wanted to say that I have been so impressed with you ever since the Heisman presentation show. I am from Texas, and I think that I am your biggest fan here! I know that you and the Lions are going all the way this year!! Thanks for your behavior as a wonderful role model and positive influence. Megan Belton, Texas

--Megan Collins - Belton, AK
A) Thanks for your very nice words. We come to Dallas this November and I know we will take any Lions fans we can get down there.
Q) Despite the Monday night game I believe the Lions are going to be in the endzone more than the other guys. Just wondered if there are any plans amongst your group or the Lions to help New Orleans get some relief. You do a lot of charitable work, so thought you might be in the know.

A) We are in the process of donating funds through our family foundation to the hurricane victims. I know there are some efforts beginning among NFL players, as well.
Q) Hi Joey, I just wanted to echo the sentiments of other well-wishers and fans. In an era inundated with negative role models, tragic events, and unnecessary suffering, the work of you and your foundation is so uplifting. After looking at the Shriners' picture, it's obvious that you are an inspiration to many! What do think influences some professional athletes to make good decisions off the field, while others appear extremely susceptible to bad choices? I look forward to seeing you lead the Lions! Thanks, Jaclyn

--Jaclyn Wetherington - Chapel Hill, NC
A) I 'm not sure that NFL players are all that much different than anyone else except that we are so well recognized. For those players who make good choices, as anyone else, your upbringing has so much to do with it. Having good role models in your life growing up I think is crucial. There are many great people in the NFL making a difference. Unfortunately, a few always seem to get most of the publicity.
Q) Joey, I am a big big lions fan in Atlanta Georgia. I grew up in Farmington Hills and Im a die hard fan never miss a game. This is your year, keep your head up and show them what you can do. GO LIONS

--Nick Tuz - Marietta, GA
A) Thanks. I appreciate your support.
Q) Joey, first of all I wanted to tell you that I think it is great what you are doing of childrens hospital. I have always been a huge fan of yours ever since you were with the Ducks. I go to every game that you play in Green Bay to watch you play....Good luck this season...and God Bless --Brad Magnus, Kewaskum, WI

--Brad Magnus - Kewaskum, WI
A) Thanks. It's going to be pretty cold by the time we get to the Packers this fall. It's always fun to come to Green Bay.
Q) Hi Joey! Just wanted to let you know that everyone here in Oregon is rooting for you to have a great year. We all believe in you and want to thank you for being such a stand up guy. All the best to you and your team!

--Nick Boyovich - Astoria, OR
A) Thanks for the encouragement. It should be a good year.
Q) Hey Joey, we're huge fans of yours and Duck season tix holders, so we watched you there and now watch you on TV. Just wanted to wish you great success this season and let you know how we respect your involvement in and support of the communities in which you live. You are a terrific role model.

--Kristy Anderson - Tigard, OR
A) Those were great years in Eugene and I look for them to be great in Detroit too as soon as we get it going this year. I appreciate your words.
Q) Hi Joey. Good luck this season-both on and off the field. As a 4th yr medical student at Wayne State, I am really happy to see that you are working with Children's Hospital of MI. I know that the kids there really enjoy your visits. Thank you for all your hard work on and off the field!

--Angela Garcia - Walled Lake, MI
A) Thanks. I'm hoping that I can continue to do some things in the future to help a great hospital like Children's. My first contact was with Dr. Tom Forbes who does tremendous work and first showed me around the facility. I was really impressed with him and others who are so dedicated to kids.
Q) I was at the game on Saturday and am really excited to get the regular season started. I noticed after your "shift" you put on a transmitter and an earpiece. Just curious, are you listening in on the coaches and giving them some input during the game? Jeannie, Westland, MI

--Jeannie Pletcher - Westland, MI
A) Listening to coaches talking and the play calling is a good way for me to stay connected when I know I am not going back into the game.
In a preseason game there isn't a real need for my input.
