Q) Joey - I've been reading all the great messages you've been getting from the Lions fans around the country. I just wanted to chime in with my best wishes for you. It's been a tough go of it during your time here in Detroit. Although a lot of people that have given up - you for one have not and I admire you greatly for that. We still believe that you are bound for greatness in this league and we hope it happens in Detroit for our Lions. Stay positive and focused!
Thanks!
--Pasquale Bruno - dearborn, MI
A) Giving up is not an option - for me or the Lions and I hope not the fans. I know there is still a lot of football ahead for me so I just have to stay positive and ready. Thanks.
Q) Joey-
Keep your head up! Everyone here in Eugene knows your character. We know you have the passion and the skill to be successful. I lost interest in professional football for several years until you were drafted. I am a lions fan only because I am a Joey Harrington fan. I know you will be successful, if not in Detroit, then somewhere else. I will be a fan wherever you are! Ryan

A) Those were great days in Eugene and I will always have a special feeling for the Duck fans. Thanks for your support.
Q) Joey, I've been a Lions fan since the days of Mel Gray and Bennie Blades. My wife and I took our first trip to Detroit for the game against the Panthers and had the pleasure of meeting some of your family in the elevator on our way back to our hotel room. To someone else, this may seem pretty trivial, but to my wife and I this was an honor. To see their faces brighten up after the loss when we told them we were fans of yours was great (It started with a compliment on the jersey one of them was wearing). My wife wants me to tell you "We think you rock"....mainly because you do. I can't say anything about the current situation that you haven't already been heard, so, I'll just say that IT WILL be nice to be the first team in history to play in the Super Bowl and have a true home field advantage. You really are an inspiration to everyone from athletes to the blue collar worker. Thanks.
--Heath Russell - Elk Grove, CA
A) You probably ran into some of my relatives from Boston who came out to the game. There were about ten of them. I know they had a great time - except for the final score. Thanks for sayiing hello to them
Q) Joey,
Let me say first I am a huge Detroit Lions fan and have been for many years. I am from no where near Detroit but I've loved them since I knew what football was. It is a tough situation for you right now in competing for the QB job and not knowing the decision till game day but you handled it with class. Cheering on and learning while sitting on the bench takes class and I can appreciate that. The browns camera kept panning on you and your reaction was always the same and they couldn't feed off that. The way you handle the situation was inspiring and not putting the blame on anyone else is what more people should do in this game. I still believe in you and things will improve and I'm sure you have heard that from many people but I believe in you as the lader of this franchise. Stay up in these times and do what you do. I have never met you but maybe one day if you are in California someway we will meet up and throw around and talk football. Stay positive.

A) My options right now are to stay positive and stay ready and I am going to do both. Thanks for the support.
Q) Joe...I know these are trying times for your confidence, but I know thing will get better. I know this because I've been a Lions fan all of my 41 years, so I know trying times. I also know I can't tell you anything you haven't already heard except, maybe, this...You are the not only the type of professional athlete I would like my 3 year old daughter and 3 month old son to look up to, but also the type of person I hope they become. We'll see you leading the Honolulu Blue & Silver to victory VERY soon. Good luck & God Bless.

A) I appreciate the very kind words. There continue to be so many positive emails like yours that I can't possibly respond to all of them.
Q) Hi Joey, my name is Josh Congello and being a Lions fan I still think you're a great quarterback. I live in Iowa so lots of people are Vikings and Packers fans but I think it's great supporting the Lions! I enjoy watching you play because you never give up. Thanks for being a great role model for me!
--Trish Endress - Mason City, IA
A) You said it ... never give up. If you remember that, it will help you all your life. I will remember it too. Thanks.
Q) keep you head up joe, the nfl has a funny way of making things happen, most know that you have a very bright future in front of you. you have a great attitude and i know that you will learn what you can from the situation/jeff/etc and your next showing will be that much better for it. i have always been a supporter because i know what kind of talent, work ethic and character you possess... i hope that you are taking it all in stride and don't wear it too heavy on your shoulders.
looking forward to your next game.
--Robert Jones - Ypsilanti, MI
A) Thanks for the note. Of course, I want to be the starter but I will be ready to go when called on and will be supportive in any way I can. I know a NFL career is filled with ups and downs and I have confidence I will have my share of good times to come.
Q) Joey, I'm a huge fan. In fact you first turned me on to football. I saw you on the news when they did a piece on the concert you put on each year for the Shriner's hospital and as I work with children with disabilities I was touched. I started following your career and the Lions. This year I was even able to attend my first NFL game Week #6 vs. Carolina and I loved it. I know it was a heartbreaking end but I thought you did an incredible job however I was disgusted with the Detroit fans and their lack of support. I know it's easy to avoid negativity in the media but how do you avoid the fans like that when they are right in your face? Keep the faith Joey because for every person in the stadium chanting that, there are 10 of us at home supporting you and cheering you on :)

A) Sorry your first NFL game turned out to be a close loss at the end for the Lions. I learned a long time ago that the QB gets too much praise when the team wins and too much criticism when the team loses. But I have also found that there are more fans like you in Detroit which makes it frustrating when we lose a game.
Q) This isn't a question. Is a congratulation because is your birthday. I wish success you in all your life.
With pride I say to you that I am the fan # 1 of the Detroit Lions in all México and I have faith in your success like Lion.
I hope that you understand me because my English is very bad.
God Bless you and all your family.
--Edgar Aguilar - México, XX
A) Thanks to the many people who have taken time to wish me Happy Birthday. I appreciate it a lot. Thanks also for your support from as far away as Mexico. I don't doubt that you are the Lions #1 fan in Mexico. Gracias.
Q) Joey,
Please tell us all that you won't give up in these trying days in Detroit. If you look to the past, Terry Bradshaw had a similar experience, and he rose above it all to bring the Steelers to two Superbowl victories!
Hang in there Joey, there's a lot of people out there who will always believe in you no matter what happens.
I remember what my father always told me: "If you never make a mistake, that just means you've never done anything."
God Bless

A) Jeff, I appreciate your encouragement and the thoughts of so many others who have written in this week. Frankly, I am so overwhelmed with the number of positive emails I have received I can only respond to a few. I know there are many fans out there who are supportive and that helps a lot. I haven't given up. A lot of good things can still happen for the Lions this year.
