Q) Joey hang in there, it is absolutely crazy in Detroit. You are a stand up person and somebody I have always looked up too. You have handled the coaching situation with true professionalism. You will get another chance to shine, and there are a lot of fans that will be there with you! Not really a question I just wanted to show some support.

--Brad Wilson - Ann Arbor, MI
A) Thanks Brad for your support. I am really appreciative of all the people who have written recently. I just wish I could answer them all.
Q) Joey, this is not so much a question as a compliment to your character. I am amazed at the level of professionalism and integrity you have shown during your time in Detroit. You have made the best of a really bad situation. I guess I just wanted you to know that I am praying for you. That may sound crazy, but I hope it is exactly what you need. Maybe you can tell people what it is that has helped you through this experience. It could be really helpful to those who may find themselves in a tough spot. What are the key components that have kept you so grounded and positive?

--Scott Donnelly - allen park, MI
A) Thanks a lot. When things get tough I remind myself that there are many people a lot worse off than me. I think New Orleans has brought that home to everyone in a real way. It puts things in perspective. We all get handed things that we didn't expect. What I have found out is that we all can control how we respond. For me it just makes sense to try to move ahead with a positive approach than getting sucked down by criticism and negative behavior. It's not always easy but I'm working on it.
Q) maybe you'd like to talk about something besides football at the moment. i'm going to portland for a few days for work, staying at the lloyd center and not renting a car. any recommendations for restaurants and must-sees in the area? isn't the biggest bookstore ever around there somewhere? i've never been there, i'm pretty excited. you certainly seem to think it's a great place. :) hang in there, man.

A) Sorry you missed our beautiful fall and all the leaves. It's a great season in Oregon. You are probably going to get some rain now. I think you are referring to Powell's Book Store. There are a number of stores but the main one is on about 10th and W. Burnside. Anyone can tell you how to get there. It's right on the edge of the Pearl District which is the real booming part of downtown Portland now. One of my favorite restaurants is Jake's up there just off about 12th and W. Burnside.
Q) Hey Joey just writing to let you know that there are a lot of Lions fans that still support you and believe in you as a quaterback. Thanks for showing character in the middle of the whirlwind that is going on in the Lions organization. Whatever team you play for next year (I hope it's still Detroit) I will continue to follow and support you. Thanks for all the work you and your family have accomplished. Alex Mundy, Bremerton, WA

A) Thanks for your email of support. There are so many like yours that I can't respond to all of them but I really appreciate people taking the time to write in. I am fortunate to be able to set up a foundation for kids and it gives my family a lot of pleasure to be able to help out where we can.
Q) Joey.........don't let them get you down. Stay the classy, professional gentleman that you are. Everything works out for a reason. Carmela DiPalma Long Island, NY

A) Thanks for the encouragement. I'll stay positive and hope something good is going to happen for the Lions.
Q) Hey Joey! I just wanted to write and thank you for being such a nice person and a great role model for everyone. I met you in Birmingham over the summer, and I was so impressed with the way you acted and the way you conducted youself; you're always so positive, and you never give up. For that reason you are, and always will be, my hero. Keep your head up and always know that I am rooting for you and the rest for the team. Thanks again! Gooooooo LIONS!

--Katie Rinkus - Troy, MI
A) I appreciate the comments. Thanks for taking the time to write.
Q) Hi Joey, I met you this past weekend in Dallas (we were shocked to find out we stayed at the same hotel as the team). I was wondering how you stay as nice as you are. You acted as though you had won the Superbowl the night before the way you were interacting with the fans. All the kids you met were really impressed with you. And there was one guy whose helmet you signed that you really made his day (he was a little old to be asking for autographs I thought, but once we got to know him, we realized that he was probably the biggest Lions fan we had ever met-he knew everything there was to know about you).

--Matt McCliment - Justin, TX
A) It's very easy to respond to kids and their requests for autographs if I have the time. I remember being that age and looking up to athletes. When I was about ten I got John Stockton's autograph while he was playing for the Utah Jazz and it was a big thrill. I still have it at home. It took awhile for me to get used to the idea that people actually wanted my autograph, especially in my last years of college. But I am happy to respond whenever I can.
Q) My daughters and I went to our first ever Lions game this past Sunday. After meeting you at a Boston Red Sox game this summer we were all so impressed with you as a person we just had to see you in action. The game was so exciting and the fan reaction to you all around us was so supportive! I think you made three new football fans. My question to you is have you ever considered having the Lions sponsor a Summer Reading Program much like the much loved Boston Red Sox do with Boston schools? The program is sponsored by the Red Sox and the Boston Teachers Association which encourages students to read over the summer. Students sign a contract to read so many books and if they complete their contract are rewarded with Boston Red Sox memorabilia. Keep up all the good work -- The Varitek Girls

--Patti Kilar - Grosse Ile, MI
A) The game was a lot of fun and glad you could make it. We needed that win. I think it would be up to our community relations office to set up a reading program with the Lions and Detroit school system but I would certainly try to lend my support. Currently, I am teaming with the governor of Oregon to promote a literacy program for all kids in the state through the SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) program.
Q) Congratulations on your win this past week-end! I was wondering if you had a favorite song to play on the piano? Good luck the rest of the season!

--Meredith Langlois - Warren, MI
A) I really don't have a special song. I like all kinds of jazz and I really enjoy improvising on the piano whenever I get the opportunity. A few weeks ago I had a great time when I was at a Gavin DeGraw concert in Detroit and was asked to come up on stage and play with he and his band.
Q) Way to go Joey, excellent game yesterday. Just know you have alot of people that believe in your abilities as a NFL QB. Your a class act and deserve the absolute best life can give. I've been a Lions fan for 37 years and your the best QB we've had since I can remember, specially with your on and off field attitude. Good luck in Dallas Sunday. Craig P.S. I live in Las Veags now and was wondering if you could give me any info on Oregon spots to vacation at?

--craig oswald - henderson, NV
A) Thanks for the support. You can't miss anywhere on the Oregon coast or around the Bend area in Central Oregon.
