Q) Joey, Hey great game against the saints! I knew you were going to do it! I truly hope you are going to be with the lions next year, if not Im sure you are going to be a top quarterback in this league. My question is how do you mentally prepare for a final two minute drive like you did today? how do you stay so calm? Merry Christmas -Dan Stuk- Grandville MI

--Dan Stuk II - Grandville, MI
A) That was a lot of fun at the end. You have to be careful not to get all caught up in the excitement of a 2 minute finsh to the game. As an offense we practice what we are going to do in this situation during the week. You have to stay alert and be really conscious of what is happening at a faster pace. After that, it's a matter of having confidence in each other.
Q) Joey, I have been a Lions fan for forty years. I truly believe you are the quarterback that will get this team to a superbowl. My question is after the season if the organization suppports you will you stay in Detroit? I know there are financial considerations but do you still have the desire to sacrifice if necessary to make this team a winner?

--Scott Shearon - St. Charles, IL
A) Right now I am just interested in playing the last two games of the season as well as I can. After the season I will talk with the Lions about the future. I came to the Lions with the desire to be part of a winning football organization. My goal hasn't changed despite the disappointment of the past four years. Sometime this winter we will decide what is best for the Lions and me.
Q) Dear Joey, I hope you do not brush this aside as another piece of random fan mail. However, it is a letter of my sincere gratitude I express to you as an individual. I am a high school student and there is not a better athlete in todays society to look up to. You truly represent yourself in a classy, tasteful way. You have been a pleasure to have as a player for the Detroit Lions. Even though your time in Detroit has not been what anyone has anticipated, I hope you realize that many people such as myself recognize your excellence as not only a player but also as a human being. You have been an extremely positive influence in the greater Detroit community, and I would like to thank you for this. Whatever life brings you, please know that everything happens for a reason; if your time in Detroit does in fact come to an end after this season, I wish you the best of luck in your new home. Keep your head up Joey; you a great human being with the heart of a champion. You will always be a winner in my book! Sincerely, Colin Fitzgerald

A) I didn't brush your letter aside. Thanks.
Q) This isn't really a question, but a statement. I am a father of two wonderful children, one who plays QB and wants to be just like you. I am proud to say that if he works hard like you, handles adversity with class like you, and tries to be a positive influence in the community like you, then he couldn't have picked a better athletic role model. Although I am sure your Detroit experience hasn't turned out like you wanted, I want you to know that there are a lot of Detroit fans that think you are a fine football player, and more importantly, a finer person. I am proud to be a Lions fan, but no matter where you go, my son and I will watch, just to see your success that we are sure you are going to have. Good Luck in all of your endeavors! - Dave Koski - Chesterfield, MI

A) Thanks for the support. You are right. It's not the season I had anticipated - for the team or for me. It's been tough at times but there have been many people like you who have offered their support which I appreciate. I wish I could thank everyone but hopefully answering your email sends that message.
Q) Joey, Long time Lions fan. I am Coach at the HS level and I can't tell you enough how much we as coaches appreciate athletes that carry themselves like you have. I hope my son develops character and a work ethic like yours. First time on the website, Jo great job by you and your family. Good luck and go lions.

--Mike Sonneborn - Cooper City, FL
A) I appreciate your comments, especially coming from a high school coach. My dad was a long time high school head football coach so I grew up around coaches. In fact, he coached my brothers and me in 5th through 8th grades in basketball and football so we heard a lot about how to conduct ourselves as athletes. I still keep in close contact with my high school coaches and see them when I am home in the off season.
Q) Hi Joey, The piano tracks posted on this web page are fantastic! How nice of you to post them. I hope that you don't let all the negativity in Detroit get you down. You have proved enough times now that your top-notch character makes you a true leader, particularly when the going gets tough. We are all pulling for brighter days for you in Detroit, and we're behind you all the way. PS. Can we purchase that CD somewhere in the near future?

--Christine Vega - Orange, CA
A) I am sorry but we are not set up to sell any CD's. I put the music clips on the website because people have asked me for some time if I would share some music I have played. Maybe in the off-season I might think about how I could do it. Thanks for asking.
Q) Joey, I admire you as a QB, but more importantly as a person. You are a wonderful pianist (Do you have an album?). I grew up in Detroit and moved to Kansas City recently. I enjoyed watching you play while I was in Detroit. You are true inspiration to many. Your foundation is great. There are rumors that the next team you play for may be the Chiefs. I would love to see you in the Honolulu Blue and Silver for ever and hoist the Lombardi Trophy for my Lions. I see many great things happening in your future. I woulld like to know how you deal with the negative plublicity that you have received in the recent month(s)? You always seem to keep your head-up and have a positive outlook. Go Lions Thank you for your time from your busy schedule Derek Divito (ddstrat99es@sbcglobal.net) Kansas City, MO

--Derek Divito - Kansas City, MO
A) No. I haven't made any album/CD although there are some clips on the website home page from one of my summer benefit concerts with Jason Mraz. I also just put on some Christmas music I recorded. There isn't much I can do about the publicity whether it's positive or negative. People are going to write or say what they want about me. All I can do is decide how I want to respond and I have tried to resist getting sucked into the negativity. I have learned to disregard most of it since it's part of being a professional athlete.
Q) So, Oregon gets left out of the BCS again...sigh. When (if ever) do you think the Pac-10 will actually get a little respect?

--Tiffany Converse - Grants Pass, AK
A) It was tough break for the Ducks to be 10-1 and not get a BCS bowl. Even though we were selected for a BCS bowl my senior year it was just as disappointing not to play Miami in the Rose Bowl for the national championship. The Holiday Bowl will be fun though. We had a great time in San Diego my junior year against Texas. They will be great hosts again, I bet.
Q) Hi Joey, I just wanted to say keep up the good work, you're such a great role model for kids to look up to because of your hard work and dedication. Keep your head up, I know the media can be hard but you have such a great attitude. Anyway, my question I know you usually get a day off a week during the season so I was wondering what you do on it? Do you lift weights, watch film, sleep in? Good Luck with the rest of the season! Cheryl Johnstone London, Ontario, Canada

--Cheryl Johnstone - London, XX
A) Tuesdays are typically the day off in the NFL for players. I usually go into the facility anyway. It can be for addtional treatment if I have a nagging injury or to watch some video of the next opponent. Otherwise, it's a day to get done all the errands and shopping that you don't have time to do during the week.
Q) Joey, Not much of a question. Just a word of encouragement... You are a class act. I have been a Lions fan for 19 years. You represent what all of us as humans should be. I hope that you get a another shot this year with Detroit with a new scheme... But if you leave Detroit, my wife and I will change the team we root for! It is very classy for you to stand above the same old crap that has plagued the Detroit Lions for the whole time I have rooted for them. You are a better person than I could be, given all the times numerous people have thrown you under the bus. You have never done that to anyone. You are one of the last great team players in all of sports. Wishing you the best in your future. My family will follow you anywhere. Praying for you... Andy Dailey, Holland MI

--Andrew Dailey - Holland, MI
A) I appreciate your words and the many fans who have written in like you. Things happen for a reason and I just have to have confidence that it will work out.
