Q) hey hi,
i have no question to ask, simply a comment to make. as a life-long lions fan, as an admirer of upstanding people, as a believer in how to handle oneself the right way i just wanted to say your time in detroit so far, whether it will be continued in the future or not, has been inspirational. thanks for providing such a public example of how to be.
i wish you luck in the future. i hope it is with the lions because I BELIEVE you can lead this team. if your career ends up elsewhere i'll be following for sure because now i not only am a lions fan, but a joey harrington fan.

A) I appreciate your email. Thanks a lot.
Q) I am a former offensive lineman for the U of O. I played back in 1984. My family has season tickets for the Ducks. We watched you play during your time at Oregon and my father and I both subscribe to NFL Sunday ticket just so we can watch you play. You are a class individual and feel badly about the way you have been treated. If the Lions decide to trade you, it will be their loss and another team's gain. God bless you and keep you in his care. Don't change Joey. You're the BEST!!!!

A) It's nice to hear from a former Duck. I certainly have experienced some athletic highs and lows over the past four years since leaving Oregon but I don't think I've changed at all as to who I am. Regardles of what happens for next year, I will be OK. Thanks.
Q) Hi Joey,
What a great game against the Steelers! Everything just seemed to fall into place. I feel so bad that the last four years have been so rough on you. I hate to think that you might not be the QB here in Detroit next season. My 12 year old son started football this year. He was very enthusiastic but very suprised at how physically demanding practice is. His season was cut short because of an ankle injury which left him very frustrated and disheartened. He has watched you for the last four years and is a big fan. I want to thank you for how you have handled all the adversity because it's really helped him to see that even though things may not go as planned you have to rise above it. Good luck Joey and no matter where you play next year our family will still be fans!!!!
--dawn thorington - holly, MI
A) Tell him to hang in there. At his level it's just more important to have fun and be happy you can play and compete. We will both be looking forward to start again next season.
Q) hey joey, you played a very encouragable game this past weekend. i knew you would go out on a hot note! I HOPE YOU STAY HERE IN DETROIT.. this team needs a guy like you for the long haul! al saunders is going to get this turned around offensively! have a great offseason!

A) Thanks for all the emails you have sent this season.
Q) Hey Joey, I got tons of nice stuff of yours for christmas. An authentic jersey, plague, signed football, and a bunch of other stuff. I was wondering if you answer fan fail, and how long it takes you, I have been waiting for Forty days, and I don't know if this is long or not, but I know you probably sure are busy. I just want to know, and if you could answer me on here that would be great. Thanks!
--Doug Raftery - Brick, NJ
A) I think it's probably easier that I answer you on this website. All the fan mail goes to the Lions and they collect it and send it periodically to Oregon. My family tries to acknowledge everyone's mail but there is certainly some delay. Glad to hear it was a good Christmas.
Q) Happy New Year!! Although the season is over and the outcome is not as expected, how do you always manage to remain positive? It is truly amazing to see everything you have gone through in this city and still remain calm and collective. I have been a huge fan since day one and I just want to say thanks for everything. I also would like to apologize on behalf of the city of Detroit for the unnecessary abuse you have had to endure. It is one thing to raze someone about a bad game here and there, but it wrong to full out attack someones personality and character. My own selfishness wants you to remain a Lion for life, but I fully respect any decision you make in the future. Wish you, your family and your foundation all the best in 2006!

A) I appreciate your support and so many others who have written in like you. I know much of the fans' frustration is a result of the Lions not winning and, of course, the QB is going to catch much of it. Having won all of my career prior to coming to Detroit I wouldn't say it hasn't been difficult at times over the past few years. All I want to do is win wherever I play. Thanks again.
Q) Hi Joey,
This is more of a comment than a question. I wanted to send you this note regarding how much I have appreciated you as a professional and the hopefully, future quarterback of the Detroit Lions. Even when it was fashionable to criticize your play this past season, I felt that the problems with the Lions were much deeper than simply changing quarterbacks. I have been a fan since you came to Detroit and sincerely hope that you will stay with the team for the future. I hope you had a chance to hear the comments from the announcers during the Steelers game game when they kept talking about how you were playing and more importantly how you have handled yourself throughout the season. You are truly a professional and exemplfy all that sports should be. Thank you for the past four years and here's hoping that you choose to play you entire career in Detroit. By the way, my wife and I were in Ireland this past summer and you have several Irish fans over there. When my wife asked why they were such fans, the response was "Well now, he's Padraig's cousin don't you know". Best wishes for your future.
--David Young - Spring Lake, MI
A) No, I didn't hear anything about the FOX announcers during the game. I had my hands full on the field! But I do appreciate your words and support. Like the fans, all I want to do is win. We will see in the next few months if I am in Detroit for next season but wherever I end up, I will have the same approach to the game. I had a chance to spend time with Padraig and a lot of the relatives in Ireland last winter. He tried to help me with putting tips but I may need more than one lesson from him. I have to say, I was surprised at how many Lions fans we have in Ireland. They even follow our games on Sunday. Of course, Padraig has plenty of fans here, including all my relatives, who follow his game.
Q) Hi Joey, You have a big fan all the way down here in Louisiana. I recently found the Harrington Family Foundation site and was deeply moved by all that you and your family have done. As a social worker I know the great need not only here in Louisiana but across the country and you have contributed so much to so many. Thank you for all that you and the team have done to contribut to Hurricane Katrina victims on the Gulf Coast. I know you are a jazz fan and I was wondering if you have ever visited New Orleans for it's great music? I am personally a big fan of Ellis Marsalis. Also, what do you look forward to doing this offseason? Keep your head held high. Robyn Woodall- Hammond, Louisiana
--robyn woodall - natalbany, LA
A) No, I haven't been to New Orleans to enjoy any of the music. I hope to some day. Most of the team will be checking out this week and heading home. I usually take some time just to relax and recover physically from the pounding of five months of football. Seeing friends and family is great and maybe a trip somewhere fun. Then it's back to conditioning in anticipation of the upcoming season.
Q) Happy Holidays to the Harringtons. Joey, I have been a lions fan for 25 years. I had the pleasure of meeting you at Ford Field's open practice last august and had my jersey signed. I was the one with the leaping lion tattooed on my right lower leg. On behalf of all lions fans across the country, thank you for being the professional that you have been. Despite four years of turmoil here in Detroit, you have handled yourself in an exemplary fashion and showed the type of class we need here. Do what's best for you in the future but know that a real lions fan will be extremely sad to see you go. My family and I have donated to your foundation from proceeds raised as a result of our memorial golf tournament for my brother who passed away four years ago. It has been a pleasure having you. Thank you for all you guys do.
Dr. Tom Smith
p.s. please post this!! lol
--Tom Smith - flint, MI
A) Thanks a lot for the support of the foundation. Despite many frustrations over the past few years, I feel taking the high road is really the only option. Responding publicly in a negative fashion through the press isn't going to help solve the problems we have faced as a team. I really appreciate the many fans, like you, who have responded to me on this website. You asked me to post it, so I did!
Q) It was good to see you back as starting quarterback against the Saints - you deserved it! You are one of the most impressive athletes I've seen, not only because of your ability, but because of your charity work and the way you've handled this past season. You always support your team no matter what - and I've never heard you speak poorly of anyone, regardless of the situation. You are truly a class act! I hope you and your family have a blessed New Year! Are you planning on attending the SuperBowl in February?
--Barbara Kolb - Canton, MI
A) Thanks for the nice words. Not sure yet about whether I will be back for the Super Bowl.
