Q) Hi Joey,
No question, just wanted to extend a personal thank you for the quality of character you put forth to the public and the football team, and to thank your family for the work of the foundation in providing a hand up to those in need.
A Lions fan for more than 50 years, there have been few players I've witnessed who have demonstrated the upstanding attributes which you have brought to this team and city, and I know that whevever you go, those will serve you well. Best wishes in your future and for serving as an ambassador for the game and for humanity.

A) Thank you. We will keep the work of our foundation going wherever I end up.
Q) Hey Joey, I just wanted to thank you for your dedicated years of service to the Detroit area. It is great to see a professional athlete give his time and talents to better other people and communities. I have been a huge fan of yours since you were drafted by the Lions and I've just enjoyed your excellent display of character, professionalism and community service over the years. Thank you for everything you've given our area and I wish you the best wherever you go. There is no doubt in my mind you will be a major success! Oh, from one musician to another, keep rockin the piano, that's a very cool talent!

A) Thanks. The team might change but not the piano!
Q) Joey, this is not really a question, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in the future.
You were a class act through all the rough times that you had to go through here in southeast Michigan. In my opinion you are a great role model for kids to look up to. My son included.
You did things the right way, I wish things would have worked out better for you here.
Good Luck with whatever team you play for, I hope a Super Bowl is in your future.
--Dan Brunet - Farmington, MI
A) Thanks for your email. Dan. I think I will use it as a way to respond to the flood of emails I have received over the past few weeks. I have never had so many in such a short period of time. First of all, I haven't been answering any emails on this website because I just returned from a vacation. I had it planned many months ago and it just happened to occur right at the end of the three day QB session I attended in Detroit. I know so many of you have written to express your support and I really appreciate it. In regard to my parting ways with the Lions, I really don't want to get into any specifics - especially since I have not officially been released or traded. I am sorry it didn't work out like I hoped it would. I have been treated very well by Matt Millen and my first impression of Coach Marinelli was positive and I think he will be bring some much needed dicipline and motivation to the team. Right now, I have a number of options which I am excited about. I have talked to quite a few teams that have shown interest in me and I am narrowing my list of teams to a few and then probably will visit them in the next week. Hopefully, my situation will be resolved sooner than later. In response to one fan, I will maintain this website and continue the work of our family foundation. Thanks to everyone for your support.
Q) Joey, First of all I would like to say thank you for your professionalism that you display on and off the field. I think that is a quality sorely lacking with a lot of pro athletes. You truely are a role model that younger kids can look up too. I was wondering if you are related to Padraig Harrington the golfer and Dan Harrington the poker player and whether you have ever been to an event that either of them participated in (and what was it like)? Thanks and good luck in your career. KM
--Kevin Marshall - Manistee, MI
A) Thanks for the email. I appreciate your words. Yes, as I've said on this website a few times, I am related to Padraig and Dan Harrington. Padraig and I are good friends and I have had a chance to visit him and many of the relatives in Ireland. I followed him at the Masters a few years ago and then spent time with him when the Ryder Cup was held in Detroit. In late February I was in Southern California beginning my workouts and the World Match tournament was held in the San Diego area. I went out to dinner with him and followed a couple of his rounds with some of my other relatives. We stay in pretty close contact. I have never met Dan. He is first cousins with my grandfather. Some of my Boston relatives knew his family before his parents died but as far as I know he lives in the Las Vegas area. Both Padraig's and my brothers all agree he is the most famous Harrington and the one they would like to meet most.
Q) Joey... I am a 20 year veteran of the U S Army on the verge of retirement. I can honestly say that the qualities that you have and continue to exhibit are character traits that all leaders in the Army strive to live up to. Continue to excel and never stride off the path that you continue to exemplify. With that being said and now that you are busy in Martz's "Quarterback School" can we see any daily notes or blogs on how the school is going? Obviously nothing to divuldge any schemes that our opponents can use, but just a taste on what its like? I, like many other Lions fans are eager to get any bits of information on what the latest is, so any news is better than no news, I suppose.. In my opinion, this is gonna be your year to prove all those doubters out there wrong and I look forward to the results. Keep up the great work and from a personal view, I am so elated you have chosen to stay with the Lions. By the way, congrats on the latest nomination....
--eddie hewitt - FORT DRUM, NY
A) Thanks for the email. Sorry. No blogs on Quarterback School. It was just intended to be a head start for the quarterbacks on the new offense before the rest of the team reports later this month. I am really flattered by the nomination for the Whizzer White award. There are many others who could have been nominated.
Q) Joey. I am 11 and a Huge Duck fan and Lions fan. I love to play football, basketball and baseball. Football is my favorite sport. I dressed up as you for Halloween when I was 6! What advice can you give me so I can play football in college? Preferably for the Ducks, of course! Oh, and I play piano, too!
Tyler Niles - Portland, Oregon
--Tyler Niles - Portland, OR
A) Tyler,
First of all, don't give up the piano. Keep playing because you can do it for a lifetime. I have always said that you should play as many sports as you can when you are a kid. If you are good enough to play at the college level, it will be obvious as you get older. Keep listening to your coaches, practice hard and have fun. Of course, if you do play college football it should be for the Ducks.
Joey
Q) Hey Joey! Good job on the 05 season. I know 2006 is going to be a good year for you guys. My question is about the Ducks. I been a big fan since your junior year. Think theres any chance of Kellen Clemens getting drafted? I think for sure if he wouldn't of gotten hurt. Just wonder what your thoughts on Kellen was. Good luck this year Joey!
-brad, dearborn,mi
--Brad Weclowski - Dearborn, MI
A) I am sure he will get drafted. He's a good athlete and a very nice guy.
Q) Joey you used to live next to my Grandpa Tony. During the big power outage you a couple years go you brought him bottled water and refused money when he offered it to you I just wanted to tell you thanks for looking out for him.
Larry
--Larry D'Andrea - Dearborn hts, MI
A) Happy I was able to help. Luckily, it didn't last all that long. Hope he's doing well.
Q) Hey Joey,
It's obvious you have a lot of fans from around the country. I want to echo my support of your play and find all of the extra's you do off the field inspirational. I, like the rest of us, can't wait for an opening day victory with you at the helm. I'm writing from Iraq to let you know that all the Soldiers support you here and wish you the very best!
Wes
--Wes Griffith - APO AE, XX
A) First, you should know that we all appreciate the sacrifices you and your fellow soldiers are making. As NFL players we are just providing entertainment in comparison to what you are doing. Go Lions!
Q) I noticed when reading your personal info that your real first name is John, so why are you known as Joey? Go Lions! Lions starting QB on opening Sunday 2006 - Joey Harrington!
--Jeremy Ratajczyk - Griffith, IN
A) It just so happens that the first born boy in the last four generations of Harringtons in my family have been named John. There are no juniors but every other generation has been called by their middle name. No real reason for it other than it keeps the confusion down, I guess.
