Q) Joey,
I do not really have a question. I just wanted you to know how proud we are of your handling of your situation in Detroit. You are a class act. We have witnessed your abilities first hand here in Eugene. We will always be Joey Harrington fans in this house.
Best Regards,
Allen T.
Eugene, OR
--Allen Turner - Eugene, OR
A) Thanks. I will always have great memories of Eugene and the UO and hope to stay involved with the Ducks for many years.
Q) Joey, I have been reading the posts and know you have been getting a few more "good lucks" lately then questions. I just wanted to add another good luck in the future. A few friends of mine and I have always said you will win a superbowl someday, unfortunantly just not in Detroit. I have always respected your stance on not blaming anybody. In a world of questionable athletes who are only out for themselves you were truly a breath of fresh air here. Good luck wherever you end up and I look forward to watching you whenever I can. I guess if I had to ask a question it would be "During your time in Detroit did you become a Red Wings fan?" Jeff Voorhies from Michigan Technological University
--Jeff Voorhies - Muskegon, MI
A) I appreciate your support. Actually, I was able to attend some of the Red Wing games but was usually gone early in the winter months during the peak of their season. It was easier for me to get to Piston games.
Q) Joey,
Again, not much of a question, but I wanted to add my name to the list of people lauding you as a class act. Through a random series of events, I had to opportunity to travel with you and the rest of the Lions to the Dallas game last year as a quasi-VIP guest of team. We even got a private tour of the practice facility on Saturday morning. Anyway, of all the players we happened to see/walk by/make eye contact with, you were the only one to stop and introduce yourself. I'm sure you don't even remember - it wasn't that big a deal. Just two seconds of polite small talk. But again, out of 53 total players, you were the only one all weekend who took the time. My point is... well... as much as I am a die-hard Lions fan, based on some of the personalities I saw that weekend... I completely understand why you're leaving. Anyway, take care, good luck, and I hope you can find football fun again someday, too.
Thanks,
Chris - Los Angeles

A) I have learned a lot over the past few years about being a professional athlete and dealing with the public. Even though I had a lot of experience with it in college, you have to experience it at the pro level to truly understand many of the demands and expectations. I've tried to remember that if there weren't fans the NFL wouldn't be what it is today - the most popular game in America. Actually, sometimes it's easier to talk with people when they just say hello and the conversation is not about sports. Glad I was able to say hello.
Q) Joey,
I am a die hard Lions fan and I know that i will miss seeing you in Motown. I know that what this organization is losing will be a significant gain for the next team you will be with. You have brought nothing but class done nothing but to hold your head high and not get caught up in all the trash that so many of today's athletes do. I want to wish you the best in the future I will continue to be a big fan. You are an example that coaches like myself can show the youth of today how to act and behave in a postive manner. Thanks we will miss you.

A) Looking back I think I was very fortunate to be coached by quality people from youth football through high school through college. They were all good role models for me and my teammates. Trying to be a good role model for young athletes is important to me. It can be difficult with all the craziness of professional athletics but it's nice to hear when coaches like you say they appreciate my being a role model for their kids. Thanks.
Q) Hey Joey, not really a question.....I just wish you luck with your next team. I am a lifelong Lions fan but I have supported you all the way. I know you will be continue to be successful wherever you play next. You have represented the game with honor and dignity, even when you were going through hard times. I have a son who will turn five years old in May, when he starts to play football, I want him to look up to guys like you who do things the right way (he has your McFarlane Figure) Continue to fight the goodfight Joey. You are a young man that will prove the critics wrong. You have a two fans in North Carolina even if you go to Miami. Thanks and good luck, Rob and Andrew Faircloth.
--Robert fAIRCLOTH - Supply, NC
A) I didn't think I had any fans in North Carolina but thanks for the support.
Q) Joey,
First I want to thank you for your time here in Detroit. Before last year I was not really sure what to think of you as a football player, but after seeing everything that went down last season I am proud to call myself a Joey Harrington fan. I am really sorry that things did not work out for you here, but most importantly I want you to know that you did (and still do) have fans here in Detroit. I am 19 years old and I have not seen too much success in the football department with our beloved Detroit Lions, but you have been a class act and I just wanted to take the opportunity to wish you the best of luck. Hopefully you will find all of the success and happiness you are looking for. Take care and good luck,
Bobby Murray-Dearborn, MI
--Robert Murray - Dearborn, MI
A) Thanks for the email. I still have enthusiasm for the game and am looking for the right fit for next year. I just want football to be fun again and I think it will.
Q) Hi Joey,
Is there any way to get a copy of the sheet music for the Christmas music you played? I'm a pianist and am always looking for another Christmas arrangement. Did you arrange the pieces yourself?
Thanks for always being such a role model. Your graciousness under pressure is inspiring. The whole city of Portland looks up to you and if we had a football team, you'd be the quarterback. Good luck wherever you end up next!
--Katherine Mullins - Portland, OR
A) There really is no sheet music. I just arranged it myself.
Q) Joey: I am the Board Chair at Gleaners Community Food Bank. I just wanted to thank you for your support of our organization through the Michigan Harvest Gathering, and for the difference your contribution has made in the lives of the needy throughout Michigan. As I hear you may be leaving this region soon, I just wanted to let you know that your support has been greatly appreciated. And, given the strength of character you have already displayed, I am certain that wherever you go you will continue to have a positive impact on the community.
I wish you the best in all your endeavors.
Regards,
Ned Greenberg

A) It was my pleasure to lend my name to your organization. Wherever I play next year I hope to stay involved with organizations like yours. Thanks.
Q) I want to thank you for the time you spent in Detroit as a player and person. You have exhibited a talent and strength of character not often seen in the sports world today. Your conduct in the situation you faced was exemplary. Im sure you will go on to have a remarkable career. Thanks again and good luck! John Pounder, Center Line, MI.
--John Pounder - Center Line, MI
A) Thank you for the nice words. I continue to be overwhelmed with the response on this website. I am just sorry I can't answer them all.
Q) Joey, First off, I want to say that you are a professional in all manners of the word. You have worked very hard, have always kept your composure and kept on the positive aspect of things. I want to say thank you for that in your years in Detroit. I see in you the many things I have seen in Alan Trammell, Steve Yzerman, and Isiah Thomas. A quality, a hunger to be the best and lead. You have always tried to pick the team up and stay positive even after hard losses and I commend you for that. I know you will succeed wherever you go and don't let anybody ever bring you down. Its a game Joey so please enjoy your time. So many of us that had that dream never make it. Thanks Joey for your positive influence. Your Fan, Todd Peterson
--Todd Peterson - Twin Lake, MI
A) I appreciate those words. Thanks.
