Q) Mr. Harrington, I am a father of an 8-year old son, who has loved football since he was very little. He is a devoted U of M and Lions Fan, and has been a Joey Harrington fan since you first arrived (he has always enjoyed wearing your jersey). I just wanted to thank you for being the type of role model we as parents always hope our children will have. Parents of course have the most influence over their children as it should be, but there are others out there in the world such as yourself who have a special influence on a young boy, and all I can say is you have always demonstrated the highest integrity, character, and professionalism on and off the field. I as a parent truly appreciate that! My son and I wish you the best! Best Regards from a Father, Fred L. Gibson, Jr.

A) I'm really flattered by your comments. Being a role model is sometimes difficult but I think it's especially important for those of us in professional athletics. I certainly remember the pro athletes who inspired me growing up and I try as best I can to remember that I can influence others now - especially young kids. Tell your son I appreciate his support but now you will have to get him a new jersey!
Q) This is not really a Question! My name is Sgt Trickel, US ARMY 1st Infantry Division. I would just like to say thanks to you Joey! I respect you professionalism and your character. I was a Graduate of a Rival High School (Gresham Gophers) and have followed your career since you graduated at Central Catholic. I am proud to say that you are a Oregonian. I wish you the best of luck with the Miami Dolphins. I also appreciate all the community service you provide to this great country. I will continue to support you and all you and your awesome family do. Thanks Much. You are a true Professional. GO DUCKS!!!!

--Trickel Josh - Gresham, OR
A) Thanks for the email. I still remember the great games we always had with the Gresham Gophers. There were some good ones. Thanks also for your service to our country. All the best.
Q) Joey, I want to start off by saying THANK YOU! Thank You for being a class act guy that you are. You have gone through some pretty stressful times here in Detroit and as sorry as I am to see you go. I am just as happy for you to go someplace else and start over fresh with a smile on your face. You have done many nice things for the city on and off of the field that should not go unnoticed. I'm only 28 and I can't imagine going through what you have gone through at our age. The way that you have handled the media, the constant change of coaching staff and the ups and downs of the locker room. My Hat is off to you. Like I said.....CLASS... You exemplify exactly how a player should aproach the game ...(team player)....Good Luck and Fairwell! Ryan

--Ryan Nummela - Negaunee, MI
A) Thanks very much. That was nice of you to say.
Q) Mr. Joey Harrington, I am sorry but my question follows at the bottom of this page, but for now this is a brief statement of encouragement with your future endevours. I wish you all the luck and good fortune in Miami. Hopefully you will find success with a new team and with new surroundings. Your positive attitude and always try your best mentality of attacking the NFL and life off of the playing field will reap its rewards for you. During your time in Detroit, you have shown that you are the classiest, most humble and professional sports player I have ever seen, especially in not so great circumstances to put it lightly. I am a die hard Lions fan, but I really hope you earn the starter position in Miami this coming season, and I hope you beat the Lions on Thanksgiving Day game big time. Wouldn't that be sweet redemption? Take care, sincerely, Shawn Sanchez Macomb, Michigan

--Shawn Sanchez - Macomb, MI
A) I'm looking forward to a new start in Miami. I've learned a lot and I am going in with a positive attitude. Thanks.
Q) Dear Joey, I am a life long Detroit sports fan & wish you only the best as a Miami Dolphin. You handled a very dysfunctional environment as well as anyone could. Although it may not feel this way now, your experience handling such adversity will yield great benefits to you down the road. Congratulations on your engagement and thanks for your contributions to the city of Detroit. Now my questions... Do you have any friends on the Dolphins? How would you describe their offensive scheme & Saban's coaching approach vis-a-vi what you've experienced in the past? Is the competition for the starting QB position open? I need to know these things since the Dolphins will now be "my AFC Team". Cheers, Tim O. Grosse Pointe, MI

--Tim O'Halla - Grosse Pointe Farms, MI
A) I am convinced that these past few years will benefit me and provide some real motivation. I am going to a team that is on the upswing and I'm looking forward to being a part of it. Actually, one of my best friends and college teammate, Justin Peele, just signed as a free agent from SD. He was my tight end at Oregon. Jason Willis, one of my wide receivers at Oregon, is on the team. Andre Goodman, a teammate from the Lions has just signed with the Dolphins as well. I know Coach Saban runs a very disciplined program which I respect. It's a little early to know a lot about the offense. Thanks.
Q) joey, you are a true class act in pro football. Thank you for all you did in Detroit and the best of luck in Miami.

--ron hawkins - baileys harbor, WI
A) Thanks a lot. My website has been filled with positive comments and well wishes. I really appreciate it.
Q) Hey Joey, Just wanted to say that I read the article in the Detroit Free Press with Mitch Album and the way you've handled yourself has really inspired me. I was especially inspired by your talking about not letting others affect your happiness. Very true. I've been going through some rough times with life in general and the people around me, so I guess that statement really stuck out to me. I guess I just wanted to say that I have noticed you taking the high road and I really appreciate seeing that. I wish things would have worked out better in Detroit, but football aside, I'd rather be in Miami too. LOL. Good luck and thanks for doing what you do. Jeff Johnson, Grand Rapids, MI

--Jeffrey A. Johnson - Grand Rapids, MI
A) Stay true to yourself. In the end, that's what's important. Thanks for the support.
Q) Joey, I have been a Lions fan for life, and a Joey Harrington fan since your senior year at Oregon. I am disapointed to see you go, but wish you all the best in Miami. Make your supporters proud as I am sure you will. Thank you for being a role model during your stay in Detroit. Best of luck. Jeff

--Jeff Nichols - Lake Orion, MI
A) Now you will just have to be a Duck and Dolphin fan. It works. Thanks.
Q) Joey, just wanted to wish you the very best in Miami. I live out here in Colorado and since you will be on an AFC team I hope to see you come to Denver to play the Broncos. I will probably be the only one rooting for you in the midst of a hostile Broncos crowd, but hey, good times! I am glad that you are going to be with an organization that has a track record for excellence. I have no doubt that you will do very well in Miami. I was curious, are you going to keep the Harrington Family Foundation? Best of luck to you Joey, Matthew Randquist Colorado Springs, Colorado

--Matthew Randquist - Colorado Springs, CO
A) The foundation is something I am committed to for the long haul. Actually, I will probably become more involved when I am finished playing in the NFL. Nothing will change as a result of my move to Miami. Our foundation's mission is to address the issues of health, education and safety for youth and that can apply anywhere. Thanks for asking.
Q) Mr. Joey Harrington! big time support for your future! i am a elementary teacher in michigan and you are used as a big role model for young men, i am sad to see you go but very happy to see you obtain a fresh start! you are going to be great! have a great year!! ps ordering my miami jersey noooow LATER!!!

--Peter sharbaugh - bloomfield hills, MI
A) Thanks for your encouragement. I have an aunt who teaches kindergarten and I really respect what it takes to work with young kids. Probably tougher than what I do sometimes. Good luck yourself!
