Q) Good--very good--game today, Joey! I know the final score was not what we wanted but . . . you looked in control out there, you looked comfortable, you looked confident and you looked happy (I saw you smiling through your face mask)! I thought it was an excellent start for you and the team. Mainly, I wanted to say "Hurray for you and your first start as a Dolphin!" but . . .I do have a question too--how is it playing with Justin Peele again? I know you two are good friends and I am sure that it is fun to be on the same team. My question is, however, do you find familiarity with him on timing routes, etc. because you played together in college or is this all new again at this level--ie. are there advantages to you two playing together because of your past playing history?
--Kathy Strombeck - Salem, OR
A) It was good to be on the field again. I am looking to have fun again and it was fun except for the final score. Losing is never fun. I feel badly for Daunte since I have been in that position before myself but I am ready to play either as a starter or a back up depending on where I am most needed. Justin and I are great friends. As former college teammates and roommates it couldn't have worked out better. We had talked in the past about the chance to play together in the NFL and now it has happened. I am not sure that a lot carries over from college other than I have confidence throwing to him anytime.
Q) Hello Mr. Harrington. Good game against the Patriots. I would call your first Dolphin start a real success. Hopefully you have many more to come. Looking forward to seeing you play more often.
--Alex Alvarez - miami, FL
A) Thanks. I feel good about a lot of my performance Sunday. We were able to get the ball off quickly on many timing routes and that seemed to get us in a rhythm. Certainly there are some other things I need to improve on. However, ten points isn't going to win too many games and we need to get it in the end zone more.
Q) You played great against the Patriots tonight! You always make your fans proud. I have been a fan since your sophomore year at Oregon (my senior year). I keep looking for your Dolphin's jersey to come out, hopefully soon. I'll look in your online store as well. Would love to support your foundation anyway I can. You're awesome!
--Leslie Lower - Redondo Beach, CA
A) Thanks for the support. Yes, there are adult and youth replica jerseys and autographed authentic game jerseys available on the foundation website. 100% of the profits go to the foundation and children's charities. Go Ducks and Dolphins!
Q) Hey Joey. In your 4 years of being in Detroit. You've been seen at the Pistons games and supporting the English D. My question is now that you are in Miami...Are you a Miami Heat fan now? Best of luck to you and the Dolphins the rest of the way. Go Dolphins! Go Ducks!
--Brad Weclowski (Dearborn,MI)
--Brad Weclowski - Dearborn, MI
A) After I signed with Miami in the spring I arrived in time to see one of the Heat playoff games. We don't have much free time during our season but I am sure I will get to some more games. Actually, I have a personal connection now that Mike Doleac plays for the Heat. He and I are from the same high school in Portland so it will be fun to follow him.
Q) I am a Detroit Lions fan and a Mitch Albom Fan. I used your experience in Detroit multiple times when explaining things to my kids (unrealistic expectations, scapegoats, class under adversity). I hope you get the opportunity in Miami to be as good a player as you are a person. Best of luck!
--bill carroll - williamston, MI
A) Thanks for the nice thoughts. I learned a lot from my Detroit experience and continue to be surprised at how many emails of encouragement I still receive. It would have been nice if things had worked out but life moves on and so have I. It's been a nice fit so far in Miami and I look forward to what this season will bring. I think you are talking about the right things with your kids. I've learned those are the lasting things of importance in the end.
Q) Hello, I know this is the section called "Ask Joey" but I've changed the title to "Praise Joey" just this once. My name is Michael from Plantation High School. I am in the picture you have in your photos section, with a red and black hat. I want to take a minute of your time to say thank you for providing us with the tickets, and the T-Shirts. My class really enjoyed the game. And now I have a new perspective on football, well, a more positive one than, just muscular guys tackling each other for a small ball. Going to the first football game I have ever been to made me realize the joy in the sport. The feeling I had while watching the game was invigorating. Being there, feeling the adernaline rush through my head as I cheered my heart out for the Dolphins. My friends and I frantically screamed your name throughout the entire game. To put it quite simply, I really enjoyed the game and you can count on me as a supporter for you and your team.
Always a fan,
Michael Del Castillo from P.H.S., Florida
--Michael Del Castillo - Plantation, FL
A) I'm glad you and your classmates from Plantation HS had a good time at the game. Just sorry that the outcome wasn't what we wanted it to be. Regardless of the score we appreciate your support. I am happy to be in a position to provide tickets to kids who might not get a chance to watch a NFL game. Keep cheering for us. We'll be back. Go Dolphins!
Q) Hello Joey,
I grew up in a small town in Eastern Oregon and have forever been a Ducks fun. As you grow and encounter struggles in life, one can only hope that their existence has made an impact. Through the years I have steadily followed your career, a kid from Oregon, the one to root for. In retrospect, all the accolades that come for sports pale in comparison to the worthy goals that this foundation strives for and implements. In the end football is merely a game, but it has served as a means to an ends. Via football you have touched the lives of many in a much more meaningful way, and that is admirable.
Best Regards,
Cody
--Cody Hodges - Boise, ID
A) I really appreciate your words. I have tried to remember that football is a game and I have been fortunate to enjoy it for longer than most as an athlete. It certainly has been a means to an end in that it has allowed me to fund a foundation that, hopefully, will continue to do good work long after my playing days have ended. Always nice to hear from Duck fans - especially after this weekend's win over Oklahoma. Go Ducks and Dolphins!
Q) Hello Joey, I am a huge fan of the Miami dolphins. I think all of your involvement in the many charities you are involved with is wonderful. Just curious if there are other websites to check out or any other information you could possibly fill me in on.
biggest fan, Shannon
--shannon smith - palm bch. gardens, FL
A) This is the only website we have for our family foundation. It's taking us a bit of time to reformat some of it because of my move from Detroit to Miami. Hopefully, over time I will be able to get more involved in the Miami community. Thanks.
Q) Aloha Joey,
My ohana (family) and I watched you play all your college games at Autzen. We were also members of the Pit Crew which you were a big part of while in college.
We have moved back to Hawaii 3 years ago but still follow the Ducks bigtime and of course now the Univ of Hawaii.
My question is .. since Idaho is now part of the WAC and your brother plays for them, will you be coming to Hawaii for the game? It is on your bye week...
Let me know if you'll be here - we invite you to a great Hawaii Tailgate!!!
Good luck to you this season ... we'll be watching and rooting!
Linelle Hanawahine
--L Hanawahine - Honolulul, HI
A) We will have to put the Hawaii tailgate on hold this year. My brother graduated from Idaho this spring so he won't be playing against Hawaii this season. He played in Hawaii the last game of his junior year, I think. I know June Jones, UH's head coach. He is from Portland originally and a great guy. Go Ducks.
Q) First of all good luck in Miami, sorry to see you out of Detroit!
Just wanted to tell you a little story from last season. I took my 4 year old daughter to her first lions game last year. We were down by the field during warm ups, I was able to get your attention as you were exiting the field. My daughter was holding her jersey over the the rail, I got a great picture of you signing it for her. I just wanted to thank you for taking those few moments to sign a few auto's. It was hard trying to explain to my daughter the way trading works in the NFL. Anyway thanks again...she is a Joey fan for life.
Chris...Traverse City,MI
--christopher deadman - traverse city, MI
A) Glad to do it. It's fun to get a chance to respond to the little kids when the opportunity is right.
