Q) Hello Joey. I'm a lifelong Lion Fan (I know you probably hate us and for good reason) but I want you to know that you still have fans here. I'm writing because unfortunately I missed the football season due to the fact I was in Iraq serving with the Marine Corps. I did get to watch all my Lion games because my family taped them for me. I just wanted to say AWESOME job on Thanksgiving. Although I am a Lion fan first and foremost I was cheering for you before the game started. I thought you deserved revenge for the treatment this place gave you over the years. And you more than got revenge... I would place your homecoming to Detroit one of the best sports moments in Detroit Lions history /also the very next week former RB Artose Pinner for the Vikings topped 100 yards and 3 TD's against us :)\ But I do want it known that now that you do have your revenge I will be back to cheering for Detroit to win next time you play them. No hard feelings I just want my team to win.... which is always a shocker when it happens lol. I still believe you are the greatest QB this team has ever had. Now that congrats are out of the way I have a question if you would be so kind as to give an opinion. Now that you are a FA.... would you be willing to come back to Detroit (I hear you laughing all the way over here in MI) of course no one could blame you for saying no if that's the case. I certainly wouldn't want to come back here after you were treated the way you were. But we have started to turn the corner (I say it every year like every loyal Lion fan lol) but I believe Marinelli is the right coach for the job /he is a former Marine himself you know :)\ plus we no longer have that CB who we will leave unnamed. We still will most likely have a revolving door for an o-line but we have upgraded our WR's and RB's. Roy Williams would definitely be glad to see you... he has said nothing but good things about you since the day you left. Kevin Jones has publicly stated that the problems on the team were not your fault. And after the Thanksgiving game... other players were finally saying good things about you as well. I would love to see you back in Detroit (but any sane person knows it will not happen) I wish you the Best of Luck Joey Harrington and sorry the message was so long but it's not every day I have a chance to talk to you or send you a message.

A) I thought I would answer your question, Jeremy, since you were away for a year in Iraq and missed the last season. Anyone who would come back to watch a taped season deserves an answer. As I said in a recent reply, I don't think returning to the Lions is in the cards. I have a lot of respect for Coach Marinelli and what he is trying to do. At another time it might have worked out better for me with the Lions. I think he knows what has to happen for the Lions to win. Thanks for your support.
Q) Hi Joey: Congrats on your wedding. A wonderful new time for you. Can you comment at all yet about where you will be playing next season. There are so many of us out there that would love to see you closer to home or with a proven winner that your services would be well suited for. No matter where it is I wish you only the best, great success and many wonderful and happy adventures along the way. You represent yourself in such a positive way, you have done well and my best wishes go out to you and your family. Bless ya good.

A) Thanks for the note. I have married a fantastic woman. Life is good and football can't change it regardless of what happens. We just got back from our honeymoon and I am visiting a number of teams at their sites. Hope to have some news soon.
Q) I am still not over the point, that your career with Detroit was just thrown out as much as you have given to that organization. I hope that the current managment of this team changes and you are brought back to the city of Detroit once again. Do you think you will be interested playing for the lions again if given a chance?

--samad qureshi - commerce township, MI
A) I don't think that's going to happen. Playing the Lions this past Thanksgiving is probably the end of it. Sorry.
Q) Hey Joey, I've asked a few ?'s from time to time, and am very pleased with the way you always responded quickly and honestly. Anyways, there probably isn't a bigger fan than myself, and its killing me that I don't know where you'll be playing next season. I do hear rumors of you in Carolina, which would be cool, I've like the Panthers ever since they drafted another successful duck, #7 Chad Cota. If theres any way you can let me (and "Harrington Nation") in on where you'll be next season that'd be great. Best of luck in the future and enjoy the Pacific Northwest.

A) I'm not sure yet since I have been on my honeymoon for a few weeks. That's why there hasn't been any news but I have a number of possibilities. Something should happen soon. Thanks.
Q) Just wanted to say Congratulations on getting married! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! A Total Fan, Nancy Walls Smith Plymouth, MI

--Nancy Smith - Plymouth, MI
A) Thank you very much.
Q) Hey, I'm very sorry to see you go. I've been a Dolphins fan since 1967 and have been a fan of yours since your senior year at OR. Is there any chance you still may resign with the Dolphins? I know you just got cut but if you don't take the job in Caronlina is there any chance we can still have you as our QB this season? Best of luck to you where ever you end up. I hope it's Miami:) again -Jason-

--Jason Essig - Seattle, WA
A) A lot of what happens in the NFL is driven by the salary cap. Sometimes players get caught up in that and that effected me with a roster bonus in March due. I won't be coming back to Miami next season but it will work out. Sorry.
Q) Joey, I just heard the news. I am so sorry. I just moved to Texas so I haven't been up to date on my Dolphins news. Anyway I just wanted to say I was sorry to hear you were not with the Fins anymore and also that Wes Welker is with the Patriots! (GRR!) But I know you will be ok. Maybe you can come play for Dallas or the Texans now! Keep your head up, you are an awesome player and a great human being. Everything happens for a reason, on to bigger and better things!! :)

--Danielle Ross - The Woodlands, TX
A) Wes is a good player and I really enjoyed playing with him. NE picked up a really quality receiver. I have some options right now and will be alright. Thanks.
Q) Hey Joey, I just wanted to say being a lifelong Dolphins fan I am very upset with this organization and their decision to release you. I feel you got thrown to the wolves last year and did an incredible job with what you had. You deserved a shot to compete for the starting job and I believe you would have won it hands down. This is a huge mistake by this new staff and it will show down the road. I'll still root hard for my team, but I'll follow you being a Joey Harrington fan. Good Luck with the team you end up with. Even though you were in Miami for only a season you gained a lot of fans with your intensity, and passion for the position.

--Nick Morton - Haines City, FL
A) That's nice of you to say but there's a lot that goes on in the NFL that effects whether a player stays from one year to the next. I enjoyed my year in Miami but salary was an issue and I was sort of the odd man out. I will be OK. Thanks for the email.
Q) Hey Joey I just wanted to say sorry about the news. Being a 14 year old football player I think more people should have your character and perserverance. You did a great job for the Dolphins this last year and the game of the year for me was the Thanksgiving game. Your character is what really sets you apart from other pro athletes. Thank you for setting a good example for others and good luck with your next team! Oh yea and whatever team you sign with, I'm buying your jersey!

--Josh Congello - Mason City, IA
A) I appreciate you note Josh. Not to worry. I am going to be OK. Being released is just the reality of the NFL and the business side of a football team. Sometimes your salary can be a issue of remaining on the team and it was the case with me. I enjoyed my year with the Dolphins but I am confident something good will happen. I have a number of options right now. Thanks.
Q) Hi Joey. I have an eight year old Son(Ben) who wants to follow in your footsteps at Oregon. I played soccer in my school days so I know little about the fundamentals to get him started. Also, I didn't realize CYO football started in third grade so we missed it this year. I'm a fan of your talent as well as your character and I can't think of a better role model for my Son. My questions are these. What advice would you have for youngsters like my Son to begin playing and enjoying football? What skills should he work on prior to the season starting? And, what memories of playing in grade school do you believe helped you succeed in later life?

--Darren Reed - Portland, OR
A) I always tell people who ask me about what is most important in youth football - have fun first! Don't worry about trying to teach your son skills. Make sure he is playing for someone who understands that learning to compete and having fun is more important than winning when you first get started in sports. The winning will take care of itself later. My dad coached my brothers and me during our grade school years in CYO football and basketball. He was also a high school coach and I remember him saying that "you can't coach them if you don't have them!". He meant that if you run them off as a coach, it doesn't matter how good a coach you are since you won't have players to coach. Getting the right coach is really important when you first get started in sports. I have wonderful memories of my beginning years having fun with my friends. Many of them are still my friends today after high school and college.
